Although winter is a trying time for wildlife, bison can withstand winter's frigid temperatures better than most of the area's wild residents. Their warm winter coat is actually made up of two separate layers; an outer layer of thick wool which blocks the elements and an inner layer that traps warm air to help them stay warm in the coldest weather.
I've always loved animals and nature and have been photographing both since I was a little girl in Long Island toting around my Kodak Instamatic. My lifelong love of all things wild and furry led me to relocate from New York to Wyoming to be close to the area's wealth of wildlife. During my first visit to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem in 1994, I felt a special connection to the area and was determined to make it my home.
