Hi Francine-these baby great horned owls are just around the corner from where I live in Wapiti, Wyoming. I've never seen the babies in the Gros Ventre campground, but have seen many picture of them.

Sandy, are these babies at Gro Ventre campground? If so, I have shots of them too, but none like this of course.

Artist's Description

Great horned owls normally produce one to five eggs each breeding season. After the eggs hatch, brooding is continuous until the offspring are about two weeks old. At six weeks of age, young owls are able to move from their nest onto nearby branches and at seven weeks they begin to fly. These two youngsters were able to practice their flying skills moving between the branches of an old cottonwood tree.

I've always loved animals and nature and have been photographing both since I was a little girl in Long Island toting around my Kodak Instamatic. My lifelong love of all things wild and furry led me to relocate from New York to Wyoming to be close to the area's wealth of wildlife. During my first visit to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem in 1994, I felt a special connection to the area and was determined to make it my home. I now live outside the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park in nearby, Wapiti, Wyoming.
