Artist's Description
In all the years I've been photographing these wild horses, I rarely see them in the badlands. And I've never seen two stallions battle so close to the edge of a sandstone ledge, that I have to cover my eyes for fear one will fall and break a leg.
That's just what happened on this morning when the pinto band stallion, TNT Dynamite, took a shine to the stallion, Kiamichi's black mare. As Kiamichi galloped in to break up the flirtation, TNT lunged at him, nearly pushing him backwards over the ledge. I know all is fair in love and war, but that just seemed a little too much. Thankfully, the battle was over almost as soon as it began. After a few bites and squeals, both stallions returned to their families, leaving me to catch my breath after all the excitement.

I've always loved animals and nature and have been photographing both since I was a little girl in Long Island toting around my Kodak Instamatic. My lifelong love of all things wild and furry led me to relocate from New York to Wyoming to be close to the area's wealth of wildlife. During my first visit to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem in 1994, I felt a special connection to the area and was determined to make it my home. I now live outside the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park in nearby, Wapiti, Wyoming. Since I left my corporate job, I spends most of my days in the company of the wildlife and wild horses that call this area home.
