Description
Bull elk shed their antlers each year as the growth process starts anew. During spring, increasing daylight elevates the level of testosterone in the elk's blood, triggering the new growth. As the antlers grow, a soft covering, called "velvet", helps protect the them and carries blood to the growing bone tissue until it is shed in August....just in time for the autumn rut.
